Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Additive Manufacturing / 3D Printing Instructor to deliver high-quality technical training in additive manufacturing technologies while integrating essential soft skills development. This role is critical in preparing students for entry-level to mid-level roles in advanced manufacturing, prototyping, and related industries. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with the ability to mentor adult learners from diverse backgrounds, emphasizing both hard technical skills and workplace readiness (communication, teamwork, problem-solving, professionalism, etc.).

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Instruction: Design, develop, and deliver curriculum and hands-on training in additive manufacturing/3D printing, including:
    • 3D modeling and design software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, AutoCAD)
    • Operation and maintenance of various 3D printers (FDM, SLA, SLS, etc.)
    • Materials science and selection for additive processes
    • Post-processing techniques, quality control, and troubleshooting
    • Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles
    • Safety protocols and industry best practices
  • Soft Skills Integration: Incorporate and explicitly teach workplace soft skills throughout technical courses, such as:
    • Team collaboration and communication
    • Problem-solving and critical thinking
    • Professionalism, resume building, and interview preparation
    • Time management and adaptability
    • Conflict resolution and leadership basics
  • Deliver engaging classroom lectures, lab demonstrations, and project-based learning.
  • Assess student progress through practical evaluations, quizzes, and capstone projects.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized training environment.
  • Collaborate with the education team on curriculum updates, student support, and employer partnerships.
  • Assist with job placement efforts by preparing students for real-world manufacturing roles.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and certifications in additive manufacturing.
  • Participate in outreach events and community engagement activities.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Technical Expertise: Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience in additive manufacturing, 3D printing, or related advanced manufacturing fields.
  • Teaching Experience: Previous instruction or training experience preferred (especially with adult learners, veterans, or diverse populations). Strong classroom management and mentoring skills required.
  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., SME Additive Manufacturing Fundamentals, Stratasys, or similar) highly valued.
  • Soft Skills: Demonstrated ability to teach interpersonal and professional skills in a practical, applied manner.
  • Excellent communication, patience, and motivational skills.
  • Commitment to Team Up Academy’s mission of serving veterans and underserved communities.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with Michigan’s manufacturing ecosystem and local employer needs.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and passionate CNC Machine Operator Instructor to deliver practical, industry-aligned training in our CNC Machining Certificate Program. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in CNC operations combined with the ability to teach, mentor, and motivate adult learners from diverse backgrounds in a supportive, hands-on learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging instruction in CNC machine setup, operation, programming (basic G-code), tooling, and troubleshooting for mills and lathes.
  • Develop and update lesson plans, training materials, and assessments that align with industry standards and employer needs.
  • Provide hands-on demonstrations and supervise students in a shop/lab setting, ensuring safe operation of equipment.
  • Teach related topics including blueprint reading, precision measurement (calipers, micrometers, etc.), shop math, and quality control.
  • Monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and offer additional support to help all learners succeed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized training environment; enforce safety protocols and OSHA standards.
  • Prepare students for industry credentials and entry-level CNC operator positions.
  • Collaborate with the education team on program improvements, student job placement support, and employer partnerships.
  • Track attendance, grades, and performance records.
  • Participate in student recruitment, orientation, and graduation activities including but not limited to:
    • Job fairs
    • Special events

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-7 years of hands-on experience as a CNC Machine Operator or Machinist and legacy machines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC mills, lathes, and Swiss machines; experience with programming and multi-axis machines is a plus.
  • Previous teaching, training, or mentoring experience preferred (especially with adult learners or in workforce development).
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to students with varying skill levels and educational backgrounds.
  • Commitment to the Academy’s mission of serving veterans, returning citizens, and underserved populations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
  • High school diploma required; Associate’s degree, technical certification, or journeyman status preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

 Preferred Skills & Attributes

  • Familiarity with common manufacturing software and controls (Fanuc, Haas, etc.).
  • OSHA 10/30 certification or forklift certification a plus.

You will deliver engaging instruction in drone piloting, FAA regulations, and practical applications while integrating essential workplace skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, professionalism, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Drone Instruction (Primary Focus)

  • Deliver comprehensive drone operator training programs, including classroom theory and hands-on flight practice.
  • Teach FAA Part 107, 108, and Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) Remote Pilot certification preparation, airspace regulations, weather analysis, drone maintenance, safety protocols, and mission planning.
  • Conduct practical flight sessions covering basic and advanced maneuvers, emergency procedures, and industry-specific applications (e.g., inspection, photography, mapping, or public safety).
  • Ensure all training complies with FAA regulations and industry best practices.
  • Assess student performance through written exams, practical tests, and flight evaluations.
  • Maintain training equipment, drones, and simulators in excellent working condition.
  • Stay current with drone technology advancements and update curriculum accordingly.

Soft Skills Training

  • Design and facilitate workshops on essential soft skills, including communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, time management, critical thinking, resume building, interview preparation, and professional etiquette.
  • Integrate soft skills development into drone training scenarios (e.g., teamwork during flight missions, client communication for commercial operations).
  • Support students in building workplace readiness and career confidence.
  • Provide mentoring and one-on-one coaching to help students overcome personal and professional barriers.

General Duties

  • Collaborate with the education team to continuously improve program curriculum and outcomes.

Qualifications & Requirements

This role combines technical forklift training with essential workplace soft skills development to prepare students for successful careers in logistics, warehousing, manufacturing, and skilled trades.

The ideal candidate will deliver professional, OSHA-compliant forklift operator training while teaching critical soft skills that help students become job-ready, reliable team members.

Key Responsibilities

Forklift Operator Training

  • Design and deliver comprehensive forklift training programs, including classroom instruction, hands-on practical training, and skills evaluations.
  • Conduct training in full compliance with OSHA 1910.178 Powered Industrial Truck standards.
  • Perform pre- and post-assessments and issue certifications to successful students.
  • Teach safe forklift operation, equipment inspection, load handling, hazard identification, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain detailed training records and documentation for compliance and audit purposes.

Soft Skills Instruction

  • Teach essential soft skills including communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, problem-solving, professionalism, time management, and workplace ethics.
  • Integrate soft skills training with technical instruction to develop well-rounded candidates.

General Duties

Qualifications & Requirements

Required:

  • Minimum 4+ years of hands-on forklift operating experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or logistics setting.
  • OSHA Compliance Certified Forklift Trainer (or ability to obtain certification immediately upon hire).
  • Formal Teaching Credentials or documented experience as a professional trainer/instructor (e.g., Train-the-Trainer certification, vocational teaching certificate, or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry safety standards.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage adult learners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Passion for teaching and mentoring individuals from underserved communities, veterans, and returning citizens.
